G.H. Mumm Demi-Sec NV

Cuvee: Demi-sec
Vintage: Multi-Vintage

When G.H. Mumm was founded in 1827 sweet Champagne was the main style and it was mainly drunk with desserts.  G.H. Mumm Demi-Sec is the sweetest Champagne made by the house with a high dosage (mixture of reserve wine and sugar) of 40 to 44g per litre compared to a Brut style which is less than 15g per litre and about 8 g/l for Cordon Rouge.

Unlike other wines in the range, Pinot Meunier plays a very important role in bringing softness and roundness to this cuvée.

The Blend

55% Pinot Meunier; 35% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay. Grapes sourced from up to 50 different crus. 20-25% reserve wines are used. The cuvée spends a minimum of two years on the lees before disgorgement.

The dosage is added after the wine is disgorged. A high proportion of Pinot Meunier and of mature reserve wines gives this wine its round and generous character. The Pinot Meunier gives fruitiness and intensity and the Pinot Noir and the Chardonnay provide structure and elegance.

Food Pairing

G.H. Mumm Demi Sec is a good match for foie gras or savoury foods that have a slight edge of sweetness to them (duck with fruit sauce). It also goes well with fruit desserts (as long as they aren’t too sweet) like tarte tatin or strawberry tart.
