Roederer Blanc de Blancs 2003

Cuvee: Blanc de Blancs
Vintage: 2003
Blanc de Blancs 2003 The unusual conditions of 2003 - extreme heat followed by periods of intense cold - ripened the grapes rapidly bringing strong concentrations of sugar and very healthy fruit. Wines extracted from these grapes were rich and intense, and so it is Blanc de Blancs 2003: this harmonious Chardonnay is partly matured in oak barrels so to warm and round its taste. The wine resulted from this elaboration process is subtle and aromatic. The blend 100% Chardonnay - 15 to 20% of the wines vinified in oak barrels with weekly batonnage. No malolactic fermentation. The Blanc de Blancs is drawn at low pressure to ensure rounder, smoother bubbles. It then undergoes an average of 5 years maturation in the cellars and rests six months after disgorgement to finish it perfectly. Dosage of between 8 and 10 g/l is adapted to each vintage. Tasting Notes Eye Brilliant yellow colour with subtle golden-green highlights. Ultra fine but remarkably and persistent bubbles. Nose Opening with a refined, concentrated bouquet of crystallised citrus and followed by scents of white fruits (pears) roasted hazelnuts and cocoa. The aromas are smooth and precise but never too heavy. Palate Fleshy, generous and silky-satisfyingly mouth filling, with a creaminess punctuated by discreet effervescence. Flavours of nuts, ripe pears, caramel and tarte tatin are balanced by the freshness and energy that come from natural fruit acidity. Food pairing A wine that can accompany fish, such as salmon, but also soft sweets like Crème Brulé and hazelnut creams.
