Bruno Paillard Brut Millésime Assemblage 2002

Cuvee: Vintage
Vintage: 2002
2002 Assemblage has been produced solely from the first pressing – the purest – of grapes sourced from 8 grands and premiers crus from the Marne. The final composition comprises 42 % Chardonnay, 47 % Pinot Noir and 11 % Pinot Meunier. 9 years of ageing on its lees gives this Champagne a perfect balance between freshness and maturity. 2002 was a relatively dry year, with approximatively 15% less rain than average. It was rather warm, with a temperate summer and constant warmth leading to an even ripening. A relatively low yield brought concentrated and aromatic grapes, with moderate level of malic acidity allowing the wines to retain their freshness, even after the malolactic fermentation, bringing beautiful maturity and great freshness.

Tasting notes
Eye: Bright rather pale straw gold colour and a vivacious effervescence with very tiny bubbles. A bright and luminous wine

Nose: The first notes are quite salty with a iodic tone, soon followed by fresh almond, then ripe fruits: white peach, cherries. Evolution toward black fruits, mulberry, and some woody/spicy notes. The impression is quite young and vivacious

Mouth: A very fresh taste confirming the nose impression: citrus fruit and spicy notes are dominating. Candied lemon, almond paste. Very net, vivacious, long in the mouth

Food Pairing A great aperitif, but also a great table wine, which can accompany most classical cuisines, including spicy ones, but not desserts
