La GrandeDameBrut 1998

Born of a tradition of excellence and the weight of time, the prestigious Grande Dame is the ultimate expression of the Veuve Clicquot style. Tailor-made in 1972 to celebrate the House’s bicentennial, the wine takes its name in tribute to Madame Clicquot, known as “La Grande Dame du Champagne”. Known among connoisseurs as one of the finest champagnes in the world, it's the pride of the Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin.

The blend

La GrandeDameis made 2/3withPinot Noir grapes from the Grand Crus in the Vallée de la Marne and in the Montagne de Reims, and 1/3 with Chardonnay grapes sourcing from Coté des Blancs. Aged for a minimum of 8 years in the chalk cellars, it has a dedicated bottle inspired by those used in the time of Madame Clicquot, sealed to guarantee the authenticity of this precious wine.

Tasting Notes

Eye

Pale golden colour with glints of jade. The effervescence is icredibly fine.

Nose

Floral and mineral aromas typical of the Chardonnay, and, after being agitated in the glass, scents of candied fruit come to the fore, gradually giving way to the more rare hints of peaty malt and tobacco.

Palate

Clear-cut and pure, balanced with a delightfully silky smoothness. La Grande Dame 1998 offers a long, lively and structured finish.

Ageing

Unbelievable ageing potential.

Food Pairing

Perfect with fresh fish but also delicate and smooth sweets.
