Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut Vintage 1998

Cuvee: Vintage
Vintage: 1998

If Non-Vintage is the expression of a house style, vintage is the expression of the characteristics of a particular year. A vintage will only be declared in good years, when the grapes are exceptionally balanced and complex.

1998 was a year of contrast – a very cold winter followed by a long, hot summer which resulted in ripe and harmonious fruit. The year produced consistent, good quality Chardonnays with attractive floral, white fruit and citrus aromas. These were enhanced by the more subtle Pinot Noirs from the north of the Montagne de Reims. The wine spent over six years maturing on the lees before disgorgement.

The Blend

The blend comprises 33% Chardonnay, mainly from Cramant and Avize; 33% Pinot Noir, primarily from Mailly, Verzy and Aÿ and 33% Pinot Meunier from the Marne Valley.
