Bruno Paillard Brut Millésimé Blanc de Blancs 1996

Cuvee: Blanc de Blancs
Vintage: 1996
Brun Paillard Blanc de Blancs 1996 is made from a selection of Chardonnays grapes that come from the grand cru vineyards of Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. This wine has been produced in very limited quantities: 7052 bottles and 2984 magnums. The opulence of candied citrus fruits combine with unusual power and length on the palate, with a persistent freshness. Exceptional depth and chalky minerality. Weather conditions in 1996 started with a dry and mild winter, with frost only in February. Budding took place mid-April with warm temperatures followed by a cool but dry May. A bright beginning if June with a lot of sunlight helped the flowering which took place between the 16th and the 19th. After a luminous but not very sunny summer, the first grapes were harvested on 14th September and the harvest continued until 1st October. But this year the sugar contents rose very quickly while the fruit retained an exceptionally high level of acidity. The harvest was therefore completely atypical with both power and acidity: all the conditions combined to create an exceptional vintage, with one obvious characteristic: the 1996 wines will need time to develop their full potential.
